Coffee Date | 1

Lovely Rachel over at Oh Simple Thoughts invited me to a virtual “coffee date” today! I’ve enjoyed getting to know Rachel a bit better since she did that awesome guest post about creating a Peaceful Home, and I love coffee…so basically, this was a really, really good idea.

Here is my recipe for “Coffee Magic”, aka: what I’ve been drinking lately.

  • Heat up 1/4 cup of vanilla soy milk in your mug (I use organic because I am occasionally pretentious)
  • Brew your favorite coffee
  • Mix coffee with milk
  • Add a generous spoonful of honey
  • Add a few drops of vanilla extract
  • Stir well
  • Be transported into cozy coffee goodness

Rachel: How are you, friend? Really?
Honestly, I’m good. The past couple of months have been intentionally slow after the whirlwind of last year. As selfish as it sounds, I’m taking care of myself, and it’s been a breath of fresh air! I’m getting enough sleep, doing yoga, walking the dog, burning candles, reading books, setting boundaries. I’m working hard at school right now and it’s paying off! I’m blogging, and I truly enjoy it. However, I’ve noticed that my desire for Jesus can wane sometimes. I love Him and I spend time in His Word daily, but I want to have the kind of desire for Him that David speaks of in the Psalms, you know?

Psalm 42:1
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.”

Rachel: What is the Lord teaching you?
Hans and I are planning a garage sale this summer (huzzah for decluttering!) and we were really looking forward to using the money to buy a real bed…because, you know, that’s nice and all, and I have bed lust for this one from Ikea.
So, as we’ve been merrily stacking up things to sell, the Lord kept nudging me with this verse:

Matthew 19:21
Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

I kept being like, “Naw, that’s just my overly-sensitive do-gooder personality coming out.” and the good Lord kept being like, “No, I really actually want you to do that.” and I was like, “But…a bed…we want a bed.” and the Lord was like, “First, I didn’t have a place to lay my head when I roamed the good earth. Secondly, you do too have a bed” (wherein I whined, “But it’s not a real bed!” and He kept going because we both knew I was having a #FirstWorldProblems moment) “and third, the money you get from your garage sale can do so much good around the world.”

So, we’re donating all of our garage sale money to World Vision.

Rachel: How is your marriage?
Like a baby learning to walk. Unhindered joy at the sensation of movement, and lots of falling down. Slowly, we’re learning how to have more of the first part and less of the second.

Rachel: How are you doing in managing your household?
This free Printable from French Press Mornings helps a ton in keeping the home running smoothly 😉 Since I’m just a student (not working and not a kiddo in sight), I have a lot of time to clean, organize, meal plan, “home fluff” (aka decorating), etc. I am definitely thankful for this season in life where I can learn to manage our home well!

Rachel: Are you finding yourself joyful in the Lord lately?
Yes and no. Like I said, I want to have that insatiable desire for the Lord all. of. the. time. So I find myself not joyful sometimes because my heart isn’t yearning after God like that. But just this morning, I sat down with She Reads Truth and meditated my sweet way through Psalm 19. And you know what? Being joyful in the Lord gets a lot easier when I’m reading His Word!

I know, I know…duh. But I forget sometimes. Thank goodness that Jesus is patient and full of mercy, because He reminds me where true joy is to be found.

Thank you, Rachel, for inviting me along on this “coffee date”!

  1. Love this girl!
I am late on mine, and just working on it now (yup, crazy week)

I love your heart, know that Rachel! Thanks for the honesty and the wonderful way that you use words!

    • Do you know how sweet it is for me to hop on here and know that you’re reading along and leaving encouraging comments? Super sweet. Thank you, Amy 🙂

I will head over to Lovely Does It and read yours!!!! Don’t worry about being late on it…I posted mine at like 11 last night 😉

    • Jordyn! Hey! I am so glad you stopped by! I’ve actually been following YOUR blog for a while and just haven’t mustered up the courage to tell you just how much I love your words and your heart…and that we’ve reached the same conclusion about the Word of the Lord!

  2. I have to say that bed is super cute- what a nice idea to donate the money. 🙂 I know sometimes it is harder to do that when we have things we want. But it’s good to have a heavenly viewpoint rather than the worldly one.

    • The bed has STORAGE underneath…that’s what I love more than anything! Oh well…we will just save up for it and but it at some point in the future. Hans and I honestly didn’t really want to donate the money at first, but we’re slowly coming around to the fact that God specifically convicted us about this.
